Our policies on copyright and data protection
The digital material (including but not limited to images, recordings, videos, and documents) on this website is made available for personal enjoyment or private study only. Anyone wishing to reproduce, exhibit or make commercial use of this material in any way (including books, newspapers, television, films, public exhibitions, websites or computer programs) must first seek permission from the ALK.
If the material is still in copyright (and has not been released into the public domain), you will also need permission from the copyright owner. The ALK will not undertake to negotiate any licenses with the copyright owner on your behalf.
Before making any copyright material publicly accessible via this website, the ALK makes reasonable attempts to obtain permission from the copyright owner. Sometimes we might get it wrong. If you think that we are infringing your copyright in any way, please email the archivist at ALK. It will help if you explain your concerns and provide enough information (e.g. the item numbers from our catalogue) to help us identify the material in question and resolve the situation.
Likewise, with regard to data protection (GDPR), we make reasonable efforts to obtain permission from living people before posting material concerning them (e.g. photographs) on this website. If you find any material on this website that relates to yourself and you would like us to remove or redact it, please contact the archivist, providing enough information for us to identify the material in question.
We would also like to hear from anyone who has donated material to the ALK Archives in the past without making explicit their intentions concerning copyright or data protection. Perhaps you donated a collection of photographs that you took yourself, and would be happy for them to be digitised and made public? If you haven't given us explicit permission to make this material public, we can't do much with it until 70 years after your death. That's a long time to wait...
